63: How to Make ChatGPT Sound Like You (Part 2)

How to Make ChatGPT Sound Like You (Part 2)

Welcome to Part 2 of the ChatGPT for Business Series!
This week, I’m pulling back the curtain on the biggest mistakes I see business owners make with AI-generated content—and how to finally get content that’s clear, aligned, and sounds like you.

In this episode, I’m diving into:

  • Why most people get robotic, generic AI results (and how to stop it)

  • How to “seed” ChatGPT with your brand voice, offers, and dream clients

  • My 5-question brand voice exercise to help you train AI like a team member

  • Real-life examples of how I use AI with clients (and how you can too)

  • What NOT to do when using ChatGPT—and why copy-pasting is killing your content

This episode is a must-listen if you’ve tried AI and thought, “This just isn’t working for me.” Let me show you how to change that.

What You’ll Learn in This Episode:

Key Takeaways:

  1. ChatGPT only works when you give it context. It’s not a mind reader.

  2. Seeding your AI tool with brand voice, tone, offers, and client language is everything.

  3. AI should support your voice, not replace it—and copy-paste content won’t convert.

  4. You can use ChatGPT for more than captions: launches, sales pages, research, strategy, and more.

  5. The better you train your AI, the better your results, just like with a team member.

S3 Ep63 Transcript: How to Make ChatGPT Sound Like You (Part 2)

00:00

Ever tried using chat GPT and ended up with something that flat, generic, like it was written by a robot who had no clue your brand voice, who you are or what you offer? In this episode, I'm breaking down the real reason that's happening and how you can fix it. I'm also sharing how I use a custom GPT and a simple strategy to train it like a team member. So it knows my voice, my offers and my dream clients.

00:28

If you've tried AI and you thought this is not working, this episode is for you. Let's go.

00:38

Welcome to Strut It, a podcast about creating bold visibility on social media with zero apologies. I'm Elizabeth Marberry, your host and Instagram marketing coach. I help small business owners get seen on Instagram and monetize their offers so they can make more money doing their sole lead work. If you're tired of spinning your wheels on Instagram and you're seeking simple, proven Instagram marketing strategies that actually work, you're in the right place.

01:07

Let's dive in.

01:17

Welcome back to part two of our five part series on AI and ChatGPT. If you missed the first one, go back, check it out. It gives you the full beginner friendly breakdown of what ChatGBT actually is and why you should care about it as a savvy business owner that you are. Today, we're diving into the mistakes, the things I see business owners do that lead to boring,

01:46

off-brand or totally unusable AI-generated content. And spoiler alert, the only reason I know these mistakes, I've made them all myself. So thank you so much for being here with me today, investing in yourself, investing in your business. I love spending time with you and I really, really appreciate you listening. If you've been enjoying this series and you haven't already followed the show, make sure you're doing that.

02:15

so you don't miss when a new episode drops. And if you're a fan of the show, if you love the show, if you've gotten some real value and support from our weekly podcast drops, I have a huge favor to ask. Will you pause just for a moment and leave us a review? When you rate and review the show, not only does it just feed my soul, it keeps me going because I pour a lot of time and energy.

02:42

and heart into the information I share with you each week. But it also tells the podcast algorithms this show is legit and it helps us to grow so we can keep bringing you this high value free content every week. So please, pretty please take a moment and leave us a review. I read each and every single one of them and you'll make a girl's day if you do it. So I would really appreciate that.

03:09

And you know what, if you don't love the show, you can just skip that, no need to leave a review. Okay, so let's start with the most common mistake I see when it comes to using chat GBT, and that is generic prompts. An example of a generic prompt would be, give me 10 Instagram Reel ideas for my business. My Instagram Reel is about how to declutter your bookshelf in under 10 minutes.

03:38

write me an Instagram caption about that, okay? Those are all way too vague. It's like walking into a room of strangers and shouting, say something helpful. It's so weird and random and you're not giving Chad GBC enough to work with, okay? When you don't give it clarity and context, you get back content that's boring.

04:06

or vanilla, sounds like everybody else's, or it's off brand, or it's just not helpful, and then you come to me and you say, this is not worth my time, right? This is where seeding comes in, S-E-E-D-I-N-G, and it's the game changer. Seeding simply means giving ChatGBT context about your brand, your voice,

04:36

your people, your goals. So it can start thinking not only like your virtual assistant or admin assistant or executive assistant, it can act in any role you assign it. It can act as your chief financial officer. It can act as your chief marketing officer, okay? It can be a strategist. It can be a creative partner.

05:04

So before we go deeper, let me give you a simple exercise to help you seed chat GPT with the right information. This is super basic, very high level, but if you've never done this before, this will get you started. Of course, in my group programs and my private mentorship, we go so much deeper on all this, but I want to make sure that you have a very clear idea of how to get started today.

05:29

So grab a notebook or open a Google Doc when you're not driving, of course, hello, and answer these five questions. Number one, what do you sell? Be specific, okay? What are your offers? What are your products or services? Go into excruciating detail, my darling, about your product or service. I know you might think it's boring. It's not. Go into detail, okay? Number two,

05:59

Who is it for? Okay, write down in your notebook. Who is it for? Or open up your Google Doc. Describe your dream client or customer in real words, not ideal client avatar jargon, okay? This is a huge marketing mistake that I see so many of my clients making. I used to make this myself.

06:24

this is the reason why your Instagram content is not converting, is that you are speaking in your expert language and you are not speaking to your ideal client or customer who is way behind where you are, right? Like you are the expert in your space and you're speaking way above their head. And so of course they don't even think of you when they wanna go book a product or service because you're not speaking in their language.

06:53

I've done whole episodes on how you can discover your Dreamboat client or customer's words, but one place to start is look at any testimonials that you have received and literally copy and paste those into this document. So this is not for you to riff on of how you think your ideal client talks. You need to really know the words that they use to describe

07:20

their problem, their struggles, their goals, and their desires. Step three, what transformation do you help people create? So what changes after someone buys or works with you? If I buy a record album at your store, the transformation is I get transported back in time to a little girl, Elizabeth, who is 11 years old. I had a record player in my room.

07:47

I know I'm aging myself right now. It's totally fine. I'm good with it. I had a record player in my room and I would play records and I would just dance. I would dance with total abandonment. Some of my favorite memories of being a little girl was those records in my room. So if I come to your record store and I buy a record, it's not that I'm just buying a record. You are giving me an experience. You're giving me a moment to remember, to reminisce.

08:17

Right? That needs to go into your marketing. Right? So what transformation do you help people create with your product or service? Number four, how do you want your content to sound? So list at least three adjectives. So for example, fun, bold, clear, empowering, casual, professional, you know your brand best, you should know your brand voice. And by the way, if you don't know your brand voice,

08:47

You can copy and paste a bunch of content that you've written that you absolutely love that you're like, this is me. Like, I love this blog post I wrote, it's killer. And you can put it in chat dbt and say, how would you describe my brand voice in three adjectives? Okay, so remember, don't think too small. Anything you get stuck on, use the AI to help you get unstuck. Number five, what words, phrases or examples feel very

09:17

You, okay? So this is your brand voice and action. So I kind of went into that in the last point. Maybe there's some captions on Instagram that you're like, I really put a lot of thought into that caption and I loved it and it resonated with my people. Copy and paste it. Find all the different places where you have written, maybe in an email or a blog or on your website or on Facebook or wherever you feel comfortable writing.

09:46

where you're like, this is it, this is my brand voice, or maybe you hired a copywriter and they nailed your brand voice and it's incredible. You can take what they wrote and put it in there, okay? Use it to discover what words, phrases feel very you. So like in my marketing, I use a lot of bold. Like bold is one of my words, right? Bold visibility with zero apologies. That is my brand, right? It is bold, it's in your face, it's confident.

10:15

It's empowered. So what does your brand feel like? So what you're gonna do is you're gonna have this Google Doc. So that way you can always come back to it. can copy and paste it into ChatGBT whenever you want to. And by the way, ChatGBT does have a memory function. So it can remember this stuff. You can train it on, okay, this is the name of my company. This is what we do. And it will remember.

10:43

Now, when you feed this into chat GBT before asking it to write, you'll instantly get more aligned helpful results. Okay, so if you are getting those generic results, it's because you have not done this work. Is it some time upfront to do this work? Yeah, it is. Anything worth doing is gonna take some time. Okay, anything worth doing is gonna take some time.

11:10

So in my Hot Reels 12 month Instagram content lab, which is my group mentorship, I have a whole exercise where I walk them through this and we even have a custom GPT that I have trained to act as me, like a little coach in their pocket to help them with.

11:33

all of their content creation and I've trained it to teach them how to ask better questions and give better answers based on the different prompts I put in there. That is something that you get access to when you join Hot Reels. So if you are thinking like, okay, this is so cool and I would love support around how to use this in my content creation for Instagram, you can check out Hot Reels.

12:02

by going to elizabethmarbury.com slash hot, and you can get all the program information there. We still have a few spots open. So if you'd like to join us, you can go over there. If you have questions about it, feel free to send me a message on Instagram and we can chat it out. So another mistake I see business owners make is copy and pasting whatever chat GBT spits out without editing, okay? So I see this.

12:29

all the time and here's how I can spot it. ChaudgyPT tends to use a lot of the same emojis and spacing of words and a very specific use of the semicolon and things like that. So if you just are straight copying and pasting, it is obvious, okay? That your captions are a little stiff, there's some awkward phrasing. Like I said, the emoji overload that clearly didn't come from you. I see this all the time with your captions.

12:58

using a language that you wouldn't use or awkward phrasing or I already mentioned emoji overload that clearly didn't come from a human. And that's when your content starts to feel like every other AI generated post online. And it loses you, it loses the magic of you, okay? In order for Chad GBT to be really effective,

13:25

you need to use your human brain. Okay, this is why AI is not going to replace you, okay? We have to use our human brain. So what I love about TragGBT is it gives me something to respond to because then I can go back and forth and say, okay, I loved this part, I love this part. This part now I can see how unclear that is. I'm gonna totally rewrite that.

13:53

help me edit that and file it into this whole, so it all flows and makes sense, right? You have to think of it as getting into conversation. So imagine that you hire a virtual assistant and you meet with them one time on Zoom and you're like, okay, here's how you access Asana, here's what I want you to do, I want you to do this, I want you to, here's my email inbox, here's how I like my emails to be filtered, you're training them, right? Imagine that you do that once.

14:21

and then you come back and you expect them to be able to know everything about your business and run your business perfectly. That's insane, right? That's how a lot of people are using Chad's WBT and then they're saying, oh, it's not good. You have to be in dialogue with it. You have to give it feedback. Well, what I love about it is I create my best work in response, okay? So sometimes what the AI gives me is not right, but that's good because then I know what is right.

14:51

Does that make sense? So you have to think bigger with how to use this tool. Another mistake is a lot of people are using ChadGBT for surface level tasks like fixing typos or editing a paragraph or take this caption and shorten it. That's fine. That's great. You can use it for that. But that's like using a Swiss army knife just for a nail file. Okay.

15:21

You're not even coming close to all the different ways you can use it, okay? So to give you some ideas of how you can use ChatGBT, you can use it to break down a big launch into a weekly email plan and not only helping you with your emails, but helping you with the strategy, pricing strategy, timeline, all of that, anything you're struggling with.

15:51

It can help you to brainstorm your reels and your hooks and your CTAs. You can use it to repurpose content that you know performs really well. You can take screenshots of your analytics and Instagram and ask it to analyze it. You can take screenshots of your top 10 performing reels, ask it to analyze it, help you to see your blind spots, what you might not be seeing or what you can improve.

16:20

You can use it to rewrite your sales pages. If let's say your audience changes a little bit and you're more clear on your audience voice, or maybe, maybe I've done this before where you're essentially repurposing a sales campaign and there's not a lot of updates, but you just need to change the dates. Wow, how quick and easy is that to just say, here's the copy, just update all the dates and deadlines to this.

16:48

You can ask it to help you refine your brand voice and you can also use it to do research on your competitors. Sometimes I feel like as businesses we get in our heads around like, well, I'm just like everyone else, but you're not my love. You are not just like everyone else. You are you. But sometimes when we're swimming in the soup, we tell ourselves that and then we get stuck. So you can use ChatGBT to help you see things from the outside.

17:18

and help you to see your differentiators and your strengths and how you are different from your competition. Here's another real life example of how I recently used ChadGBT. So I have a private client who owns a high end jewelry store in Cherry Creek. They're the leaders in the engagement ring industry. And they came to me with a rough outline for a lead magnet that we are working on. And as you know, I'm sure a lead magnet is a freebie.

17:47

that you give your potential clients or customers in exchange for their name and their email. Lead Magnet is just a fantastic way to establish yourself as an expert while giving your potential client some real value. And so they came to me with this rough outline. We had figured out what the Lead Magnet was gonna be. It was gonna be a certain type of guide of how to find your perfect engagement ring. And they came to me with this rough draft.

18:15

It had solid ideas, but no real sparkle or wow factor, but like the basics of the guide were there, right? Like step one, step two, step three, you know, all of that. So we took that rough draft and fed it into ChatGBT and PS, I, of course, as their mentor, I use ChatGBT with my coaching clients. I feed the ChatGBT all of my client info so that way,

18:41

it knows my clients and so when I'm feeling stuck or when I'm feeling like I need to refine something, it's already seated with our information. So with just a few key tweaks to the prompt, we generated a fully fleshed out, polished first draft of their lead magnet guide that finally sounded like their brand, totally elegant, confident, luxury driven and they walked away saying like, this is exactly what I've been trying.

19:09

to get on paper. Now, that was our first draft. We met for another hour in person and made additional adjustments to make sure that it all made sense and it was totally congruent with their brand and their voice. Okay, so again, it was our first draft, but I've done a lot of lead magnets. These lead magnets used to take weeks to flash out. Now we flash that out in one hour, okay?

19:36

TriedGBT is powerful, but it's only as good as the inputs it gets and your willingness to collaborate with it. The coolest part about this tool is that the more you use it, the easier it becomes. And the more it will learn about you and your business and it's like planting that seed in the ground. You're gonna water it, you're gonna give it sun and you're gonna be blown away at how it grows and how it becomes

20:05

this non-negotiable part of your day. So next week, I'm walking you through exactly how I use ChildGDP every single day. And I'm gonna give you really specific examples from scripting my talking head reels to planning my launches and even analyzing financial documents. So for me, it's not just about content creation. It's about running both of my businesses as a mother of two young kids with more ease and clarity.

20:34

And I'm excited to pull back the curtain and give you more examples so you can really start to understand how powerful this tool is and give you ideas of how you can start to really implement it in your daily life.
